Lieutenant James Cook of the Britain’s Royal Navy set sail on the HMS Endeavour in 1768 on a voyage to explore and inspect the outskirts of the known world.
Two years from his departure, Lieutenant Cook reached New Zealand and Australia, charting the entire northern and southern island regions.
The HMS Endeavour was the first ship to accurately navigate the majority of the Australian coastline and suitably, James Cook is considered a large part of Australian history.
On the HMS Endeavour, Cook became the first voyager to accurately develop a mathematical algorithm to figure out his longitudinal position in open waters.
