  • Ornaments and decorations on this USS Constitution model (which may include cannons, portholes, anchors, muskets, and other details) are sculpted of brass, chrome, and other metals.

  • Sails are handmade of fine linen and rigging lines vary in weight, thickness and color.

  • The detailed, hand-stitched sails of the model ship are constructed of fine linen. The detailed riggings and lining are painstakingly fastened by hand and also made of linen.

  • Extensive research is required to build each USS Constitution model according to scale, using various pictures, original plans, drawings, and digital imaging.

  • Each USS Constitution model ship is examined during various processes of manufacturing and shipment to ensure the highest quality and accuracy possible for your investment.

History

The US War ship “Old Ironsides” is made from all American timber from Maine to Georgia and armed with all American artillery, fashioned in Rhode Island. First launched in Boston in 1979, the USS Constitution was put into sea in 1798. During the 1790s, the USS Constitution defended American commerce against the French havoc in the Caribbean Ocean. Then in 1803, President Jefferson ordered her to protect American vessels in the Mediterranean against Barbary pirates.

After returning to the United States, the USS Constitution was named the flagship of the North Atlantic Squadron. In 1810, her new captain, Isaac Hull, took her to sea. Two years later she engaged and conquered the HMS Guerriere, the first in a grand succession of victories in the War of 1812. It was during this intense battle that the seamen, astounded at how the British cannonballs were simply bouncing off the Constitution's hull, cried out - "Huzzah! Her sides are made of iron!" And thus the creation of her nickname, “Old Ironsides.”

The USS Constitution has remained a part of the US Navy since that time, and thus holds the title as the oldest living commissioned warship in the entire world.
